History & Timeline from Appellation Saint Helena

The first wines produced did not get much respect as they used too much Mission grapes in the blend. This was changed in the late 1870’s and by 1880 foreign grapes were replacing the Mission grape in much of St Helena. Foreign being mostly French.

The Saint Helena Star was started in 1874, it is today a part of the Napa Valley Register.
