So now we are going to celebrate the decline of the importance of appellation and a sense of place. This is just plain crazy, yeah Gallo and Constellation for turning wine into the next Coca Cola or Budweiser. Yeah for making Barefoot, Cavit, Yellowtail, Cupcake more important than Champagne, Chablis, Chambertin, Meursault, Napa, Sonoma, St-Emilion, Pauillac and Chianti. Well done.
This quote is from an article by Blake Gray from the Unified Wine & Grape Symposium in Sacramento! I know Blake is just reporting what he is observing, but this is just scary.
“Fredrikson chose Gallo and Constellation because of their strong marketing, most of it relating to wine brands that are no longer attached to specific wine regions.”
